ತ್ರಿಪಂಚಾಶಸ್ಸರ್ಗಃ

ಏವಮುಕ್ತಾ ವಸಿಷ್ಠೇನ ಶಬಲಾ ಶತ್ರುಸೂದನ |
ವಿದಧೇ ಕಾಮಧುಕ್ ಕಾಮಾನ್ ಯಸ್ಯ ಯಸ್ಯ ಯಥೇಪ್ಸಿತಮ್||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ಶತ್ರುಸೂದನ ! ವಸಿಷ್ಠೇನ ಏವಮ್ ಉಕ್ತಾ ಶಬಲಾ ಕಾಮಧುಕ್ ಯಸ್ಯ ಯಸ್ಯ ಯಥೇಪ್ಸಿತಮ್ ಕಾಮಾನ್ ವಿದಧೇ||

'Oh Rama ! Having been told by Sage Vasishta , Sabala then prepared food according to the wishes and preferances of each person'.

ಇಕ್ಷೂನ್ ಮಧೂಂ ಸ್ತಥಾ ಲಾಜಾನ್ ಮೈರೇಯಾಂಶ್ಚ ವರಾಸನಾನ್ |
ಪಾನಾನಿ ಚ ಮಹರ್ಹಾಣಿ ಭಕ್ಷ್ಯಾಂ ಶ್ಚೋಚ್ಚಾವಚಾಂಸ್ತಥಾ ||
ಉಷ್ಣಾಢ್ಯಸ್ಯೌದನಸ್ಯಾತ್ರ ರಾಶಯಃ ಪರ್ವತೋಪಮಾಃ |
ಮೃಷ್ಟಾನ್ನಾನಿ ಚ ಸೂಪಾಂಶ್ಚ ದಧಿಕುಲ್ಯಾಂ ಸ್ತಥೈವ ಚ ||
ನಾನಾಸ್ವಾದು ರಸಾನಾಂ ಚ ಷಾಡಬಾನಾಂ ತಥೈವ ಚ |
ಭಾಜನಾನಿ ಸುಪೂರ್ಣಾನಿ ಗೌಡಾನಿ ಚ ಸಹಸ್ರಶಃ ||
ಸರ್ವ ಮಾಸೀತ್ ಸುಸಂತುಷ್ಟಂ ಹೃಷ್ಟಪುಷ್ಟ ಜನಾಯುತಮ್ |
ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರ ಬಲಂ ರಾಮ ವಸಿಷ್ಠೇನಾಭಿ ತರ್ಪಿತಮ್ ||

ಸ|| ಇಕ್ಷೂನ್ ಮಧೂಂ ಲಾಜಾನ್ ಮೈರೇಯಾಂಶ್ಚ ಪಾನಾನಿ ಮಹಾರ್ಹಾಣಿ ಶ್ಚೋಚ್ಚಾವಚಾಂ ಭಕ್ಷ್ಯಾಂ ತಥಾ | ಅತ್ರ ಉಷ್ಣಾಡ್ಯ ಸ್ಯೌದನಸ್ಯ ಮೃಷ್ಟಾನ್ನಾನಿ ಸೂಪಾಂಶ್ಚ ತಥೈವ ದಧಿಕುಲ್ಯಾಂ ರಾಶಯಃ ಪರ್ವತೋಪಮಾಃ | ನಾನಾಸ್ವಾದು ರಸಾನಾಂ ಚ ತಥೈವ ಷಾಡಬಾನಾಂ ಚ ಸುಪೂರ್ಣಾನಿ ಗೌಡಾನಿ ಸಹಸ್ರಶಃ ಭಾಜನಾನಿ ಚ | ಹೇ ರಾಮ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರ ಬಲಮ್ ಸರ್ವಂ ವಸಿಷ್ಠೇನಾಭಿ ತರ್ಪಿತಮ್ ಹೃಷ್ಟ ಪುಷ್ಟ ಸುಸಂತುಷ್ಠಂ ಜನಾಯುತಂ ಆಸೀತ್ |

'The food included sugar cane preparations, honey, and other drinks. There were a variety of food preparations with mountains of hot steaming food and great variety of grain preparations. There were variety of drinks and streams of curd . There were vessels filled with variety of food items. O Rama the army of Viswamitra became full of people who were throughly satisfied by the hospitality of sage Vasistha'.

ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರೋs ಪಿ ರಾಜರ್ಷಿಃ ಹೃಷ್ಟಃ ಪುಷ್ಟಸ್ತದಾ ಭವತ್ |
ಸಾಂತಃ ಪುರವರೋ ರಾಜಾ ಸ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣ ಪುರೋಹಿತಃ ||
ಸಾಮಾತ್ಯೋ ಮಂತ್ರಿಸಹಿತಃ ಸ ಭೃತ್ಯಃ ಪೂಜಿತಸ್ತದಾ |
ಯುಕ್ತಃ ಪರಮಹರ್ಷೇಣ ವಸಿಷ್ಠಂ ಇದಂ ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ ||

ಸ|| ತದಾ ರಾಜರ್ಷಿಃ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರಃ ಅಪಿ ಹೃಷ್ಟಃ ಪುಷ್ಟಃ ಅಭವತ್ | ಸ ಅಂತಃ ಪುರವರಃ ಸ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣ ಸ ಪುರೋಹಿತಃ ಸಾಮಾತ್ಯೋ ಮಂತ್ರಿಸಹಿತಃ ಸ ಭೃತ್ಯಃ ಪೂಜಿತಃ ರಾಜಾ ತದಾ ಪರಮಹರ್ಷೇಣ ಇದಂ ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ |

'Then the King Viswamitra too was very happy . The king who was honored along with the best people of his palace, the entourage of Brahmins along with priests, the ministers and the servants, then spoke with delight as follows'.

ಪೂಜಿತೋs ಹಂ ತ್ವಯಾ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನ್ ಪೂಜಾರ್ಹೇಣ ಸುಸತ್ಕೃತಃ |
ಶ್ರೂಯತಾಮಭಿದಾಸ್ಯಾಮಿ ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ವಾಕ್ಯ ವಿಶಾರದ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನ್ ! ಪೂಜಾರ್ಹೇನ ತ್ವಯಾ ಅಹಂ ಸುಸತ್ಕೃತಃ ಪೂಜಿತಂ | ಹೇ ವಾಕ್ಯ ವಿಶಾರದ ಅಭಿದಾಸ್ಯಾಮಿ ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ಶ್ರೂಯತಾಂ |

"Oh Brahman! I have been honored by one who is is himself eminently honorable. Oh learned man I have one request".

ಗವಾಂ ಶತಸಹಸ್ರೇಣ ದೀಯತಾಂ ಶಬಲಾಮಮ |
ರತ್ನಂ ಹಿ ಭಗವನ್ನೇತತ್ ರತ್ನಹಾರೀಚ ಪಾರ್ಥಿವಃ ||
ತಸ್ಮಾನ್ಮೇ ಶಬಲಾಂ ದೇಹಿ ಮಮೈಷಾ ಧರ್ಮತೋ ದ್ವಿಜ |

ಸ|| ಹೇ ಭಗವನ್ ಗವಾಂ ಶತಸಹಸ್ರೇಣ ಶಬಲಾ ಮಮದೀಯತಾಂ |ಏತತ್ ರತ್ನಂ ಹಿ | ಪಾರ್ಥಿವಃ ರತ್ನಹಾರೀ ಚ | ಹೇ ದ್ವಿಜ ತಸ್ಮಾತ್ ಧರ್ಮತೋ ಏಷಾ ಮಮ | ತಸ್ಮಾತ್ ಶಬಲಾಂ ದೇಹಿ |

"Oh Bhagavan ! Take hunderd thousand cows and give me Sabala. It s a gem. The king is the owner of all gems. O Brahman ! Hence by right it belongs to the King. Hence give Sabala to me".

ಏವಮುಕ್ತಸ್ತು ಭಗವಾನ್ ವಸಿಷ್ಠೋ ಮುನಿಸತ್ತಮಃ ||
ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರೇಣ ಧರ್ಮಾತ್ಮಾಪ್ರತ್ಯುವಾಚ ಮಹೀಪತೀಮ್ |
ನಾಹಂ ಶತಸಹಸ್ರೇಣ ನಾಪಿ ಕೋಟಿಶತೈರ್ಗವಾಮ್ ||
ರಾಜನ್ ದಾಸ್ಯಾಮಿ ಶಬಲಾಂ ರಾಶಿಭಿ ರಜತಸ್ಯ ವಾ |
ನ ಪರಿತ್ಯಾಗಮರ್ಹೇಯಂ ಮತ್ಸಕಾ ಶಾದರಿಂದಮ ||

ಸ|| ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರೇಣ ಏವಂ ಉಕ್ತಃ ಮುನಿಸತ್ತಮಃ ಧರ್ಮಾತ್ಮಾ ಭಗವಾನ್ ವಶಿಷ್ಠಃ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರೇಣ ಏವಂ ಉಕ್ತಃ ಮಹೀಪತಿಂ ಪ್ರತ್ಯುವಾಚ | ಹೇ ರಾಜನ್ ! ನ ಶತಸಹಸ್ರೇಣ ವಾ ನ ಕೋಟಿ ಶತೈಃ ಗವಾಂ ವಾ ರಜತ್ಸ್ಯ ರಾಶಿಭಿ ಶಬಲಾಂ ದಾಸ್ಯಾಮಿ | ಹೇ ಅರಿಂದಮ ! ಮತ್ಸಕಾಸಾತ್ ಅಯಂ ಪರಿತ್ಯಾಗಂ ನ ಅರ್ಹಃ |

'Having been told by Viswamitra thus, the best of sages and the righteous Vasishta spoke as follows. "Oh King even with hundred thousand or hundred lakh cows or even mountains of silver I will not part with Sabala. O King! it can not be separated from me."

ಶಾಶ್ವತೀ ಶಬಲಾ ಮಹ್ಯಂ ಕೀರ್ತಿರಾತ್ಮನತೋ ಯಥಾ |
ಅಸ್ಯಾಂ ಹವ್ಯಂಚ ಕವ್ಯಂಚ ಪ್ರಾಣಯಾತ್ರ ತಥೈವ ಚ ||

ಸ|| ಯಥಾ ಆತ್ಮನತೋ ಕೀರ್ತಿಃ ಮಹ್ಯಂ ಶಬಲಾ ಶಾಶ್ವತೀ | ಅಸ್ಯಾಂ ಹವ್ಯಂ ಚ ಕವ್ಯಂ ಚ ತಥೈವ ಪ್ರಾಣ ಯಾತ್ರಾ ಚ||

"Like the honor for honourable men, Sabala cannot be separated from me . That is the offering for gods, offering for the ancestors, it is also the life line".

ಆಯತ್ತ ಮಗ್ನಿಹೋತ್ರಂ ಚ ಬಲಿರ್ಹೋಮ ಸ್ತಥೈವ ಚ |
ಸ್ವಾಹಾಕಾರಾ ವಷಟ್ಕಾರೌ ವಿದ್ಯಾಶ್ಚ ವಿವಿಥಾಸ್ತದಾ ||

ಸ|| ಅಯಂ ಅಗ್ನಿಹೋತ್ರಂ ಚ ಬಲಿಃ ಹೋಮಃ ಚ ತಥೈವ ಸ್ವಾಹಾಕಾರಾ ವಷಟ್ಕಾರಾ ತದ ವಿವಿಧಾಃ ವಿದ್ಯಾಶ್ಚ ||

"It is support for Homa as well as the the sacrificial fire . It is support for the entire body of rituals from Svahakara , Vashatkara and varirty of other teachings".

ಆಯತ್ತ ಮತ್ರ ರಾಜರ್ಷೇ ಸರ್ವಮೇತನ್ನಸಂಶಯಃ |
ಸರ್ವಸ್ವ ಮೇತತ್ ಸತ್ಯೇನ ಮಮತುಷ್ಟಿಕರೀ ಸದಾ ||
ಕಾರಣೈರ್ಬಹುಭೀ ರಾಜನ್ ನ ದಾಸ್ಯೇ ಶಬಲಾಂ ತವ |

ಸ|| ರಾಜರ್ಷೇ ಅತ್ರ ನ ಸಂಶಯಃ ಎತತ್ ಸರ್ವಂ | ಸತ್ಯೇನ ಏತತ್ ಮಮ ಸರ್ವಸ್ವಂ ಸದಾ ತುಷ್ಟಿಕರೀ ||ಹೇ ರಾಜನ್ ! ಬಹುಭಿಃ ಕಾರಣೈಃ ತವ ಶಬಲಾಂ ನ ದಾಸ್ಯೇ ||

"Oh Rajarshi! There is no doubt. It is everything. Truth is it is everything and the cause of bliss. O Rajan! There are many reasons. I will not give Sabala to you".

ವಸಿಷ್ಠೇನೈವ ಮುಕ್ತಸ್ತು ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರೋ ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ ತತಃ||
ಸಂರಬ್ದತರಮತ್ಯರ್ಥಂ ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ವಾಕ್ಯ ವಿಶಾರದಃ||

ಸ|| ಏವಂ ವಸಿಷ್ಠೇನ ಉಕ್ತಸ್ತು ತತಃ ವಾಕ್ಯ ವಿಶಾರದಃ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರಃ ಸಂರಬ್ದತರಂ ಅತ್ಯರ್ಥಂ ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ |

'Having been told thus by Vasishta , the expert in using language Viswamitra visibly agitated spoke the following words'.

ಹೈರಣ್ಯಕಕ್ಷ್ಯಾ ಗ್ರೈವೇಯಾನ್ ಸುವರ್ಣಾಂಕುಶ ಭೂಷಿತಾನ್ |
ದದಾಮಿ ಕುಂಜರಾಂ ಸ್ತೇs ಹಂ ಸಹಸ್ರಾಣಿ ಚತುರ್ದಶ ||
ಹೈರಣ್ಯಾನಾಮ್ ರಥಾನಾಂ ತೇ ಶ್ವೇತಾಶ್ವಾನಾಂ ಚತುರ್ಯುಜಾಮ್|
ದದಾಮಿ ತೇ ಶತಾನ್ಯಷ್ಟೌ ಕಿಂಕಿಣೀಕ ವಿಭೂಷಿತಾನ್ ||
ಹಯಾನಾಂ ದೇಶಜಾತಾನಾಂ ಕುಲಜಾನಾಂ ಮಹೌಜಸಾಮ್ |
ಸಹಸ್ರಮೇಕಂ ದಶ ಚ ದದಾಮಿ ತವ ಸುವ್ರತ ||
ನಾನಾವರ್ಣವಿಭಕ್ತಾನಾಂ ವಯಃ ಸ್ಥಾನಾಂ ಸ್ತಥೈವ ಚ |
ದಾದಾಮ್ಯೇಕಾಂ ಗವಾಂ ಕೋಟೀಂ ಶಬಲಾ ದೀಯತಾ ಮಮ ||

ಸ|| ಚತುರ್ದಶ ಸಹಸ್ರಾಣಿ ಹೈರಣ್ಯಕಕ್ಷ್ಯಾ ಗ್ರೈವೇಯಾನ್ ಸುವರ್ಣಾಂಕುಶ ಭೂಷಿತಾನ್ ಕುಂಜರಾನ್ ತೇ ಅಹಂ ದಾಸ್ಯಾಮಿ |ತೇ ಹೈರಣ್ಯಾನಾಂ ರಥಾನಾಂ ಕಿಂಕಿಣೀಕ ವಿಭೂಷಿತಾನ್ ಶ್ವೇತಾಶ್ವಾನಾಂ ಚತುರ್ಯುಜಾಮ್ ಶತಾನ್ಯಷ್ಟೌ ದದಾಮಿ | ಹೇ ಸುವ್ರತ! ದೇಶಜಾತಾನಾಂ ಕುಲಜಾನಾಂ ಮಹೌಜಸಾಂ ಹಯಾನಾಂ ದಶ ಸಹಸ್ರಮೇಕಮ್ ತವ ದದಾಮಿ ||ತಥೈವ ವಯಃ ನಾನಾವರ್ಣ ವಿಭಕ್ತಾನಾಂ ಸ್ಥಾನಾಂ ಏಕಾಂ ಕೋಟೀಂ ಗವಾಂ ದದಾಮಿ !ಮಮ ಶಬಲಾ ದೀಯತಾ ||

"Oh Sage ! I will give you fourteen thousand elephants decorated with golden chains, jewelry and golden goads. I will give you eight hundred golden chariots decorated with jingle bells and drawn by four white horse. Oh best of sages ! I will give you eleven thousand powerful horses of best breed and from the best country. Like wise I will give you one crore cows of right age and of different varieties. Give me Sabala !"

ಯಾವದಿಚ್ಛಸಿ ರತ್ನಂ ವಾ ಹಿರಣ್ಯಂ ವಾ ದ್ವಿಜೋತ್ತಮ |
ತವದ್ದದಾಮಿ ತತ್ಸರ್ವಂ ಶಬಲಾ ದೀಯತಾಂ ಮಮ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ದ್ವಿಜೋತ್ತಮಾ ! ರತ್ನಂ ವಾ ಹಿರಣ್ಯಂ ವಾ ಯಾವತ್ ಇಚ್ಛಸಿ ತತ್ ಸರ್ವಂ ತವ ದದಾಮಿ | ಮಮ ಶಬಲಾ ದೀಯತಾಂ ||

"Oh Best of brahmins ! I will give gems or gold to the extent you desire. Give me Sabala".

ಏವಮುಕ್ತಸ್ತು ಭಗವಾನ್ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರೇಣ ಧೀಮತಾ |
ನ ದಾಸ್ಯಾಮೀತಿ ಶಬಲಾಂ ಪ್ರಾಹ ರಾಜನ್ ಕಥಂಚನ ||

ಸ|| ಧೀಮತಾ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರೇಣ ಏವಂ ಉಕ್ತಸ್ತು , "ರಾಜನ್ ಕಥಂಚನ ಶಬಲಾಂ ನ ದಾಸ್ಯಾಮಿ" ಇತಿ ಪ್ರಾಹ ||

'When that highly intelligent Viswamitra spoke thus , the reply was " Oh King under any circumstances I will not give Sabala".

ಏತದೇವಹಿ ಮೇ ರತ್ನಂ ಏತದೇವಹಿ ಮೇ ಧನಮ್ |
ಏತದೇವಹಿ ಸರ್ವಸ್ವಮ್ ಏತದೇವಹಿ ಜೀವಿತಮ್ |||
ದರ್ಶಶ್ಚ ಪೂರ್ಣಮಾಸಶ್ಚ ಯಜ್ಞೈವಾಪ್ತ ದಕ್ಷಿಣಾಃ |
ಏತದೇವಹಿ ಮೇ ರಾಜನ್ ವಿವಿಧಾಶ್ಚ ಕ್ರಿಯಾಸ್ತಥಾ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ರಾಜನ್ ! ಏತತ್ ಏವಹಿ ಮೇ ರತ್ನಂ | ಏತತ್ ಏವಹಿ ಮೇ ಧನಮ್ | ಏತತ್ ಏವಹಿ ಮೇ ಸರ್ವಸ್ವಂ | ಏತತ್ ಏವಹಿ ಮೇ ಜೀವಿತಮ್ | ಏತತ್ ಏವ ಹಿ ದರ್ಶಶ್ಚ ಪೂರ್ಣಮಾಸಶ್ಚ ಯಜ್ಞೈವಾಪ್ತ ದಕ್ಷಿಣಾಃ | ತಥಾ ಏತತ್ ಏವಹಿ ವಿವಿಥಾ ಕ್ರಿಯಾಶ್ಚ ||

"Oh King this is my jewel. This is my wealth. This is my everything. This is my life. This is the source for my Darsa and Purnamaasa Yagas, and all the yagas that have an offering. This is my source for all my activities".

ಅದೋಮೂಲಾಃ ಕ್ರಿಯಾಸ್ಸರ್ವಾ ಮಮರಾಜನ್ ನ ಸಂಶಯಃ |
ಬಹೂನಾ ಕಿಂ ಪ್ರಲಾಪೇನ ನ ದಾಸ್ಯೇ ಕಾಮದೋಹಿನೀಮ್ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ರಾಜನ್ ! ಮಮ ಕ್ರಿಯಾಸ್ಸರ್ವಾ ಅದೋ ಮೂಲಾಃ ನ ಸಂಶಯಃ | ಕಿಂ ಪ್ರಲಾಪೇನ ಬಹುನಾ ಕಾಮದೋಹಿನೀಂ ನ ದಾಸ್ಯೇ ||

"Oh Rajan ! Without any doubt this is the source for all my activities. No need for more words. I cannot give this desire fulfilling cow".

ಇತ್ಯಾರ್ಷೇ ಶ್ರೀಮದ್ರಾಮಾಯಣೇ ವಾಲ್ಮೀಕೀಯೇ ಆದಿಕಾವ್ಯೇ ಬಾಲಕಾಂಡೇ ತ್ರಿಪಂಚಾಶಸ್ಸರ್ಗಃ ||

Thus ends Sarga fiftythree of Balakanda in Srimad Valmiki Ramayan.
